Born: Omaha, Nebraska

From:  Mostly grew up in Texas.   He moved from Texas to Portland at age 14.

Earlier music career:  Was in Stranger than Fiction (w/Garrick Duckler, Tony Lash, Jason Hornick) in the early/mid 80’s.  

Began Heatmiser in 1991.  Ended 1995/1996 (?).   Albums included Yellow No. 5, Cop and Speedracer, and Mic City Sons.

Education:  Graduated from H.S. on June 3, 1987.  Graduated from College in early 90’s

Music career as Elliott Smith:  

Released Roman Candle in 1994 (Cavity Search Records).

Released s/t in 1995 (Kill Rock Stars).

Released either/or in 1997 (Kill Rock Stars).

Was nominated for an Oscar for the "Good Will Hunting" song Miss Misery.

Released XO in 1998 (Dreamworks).

Relased Figure Eight in 2000 (Dreamworks).
